NeurologyLive’s Matt Hoffman sat down with Dr. Kathryn Davis to discuss the impact and possible treatments of cognitive issues seen in her epilepsy patients. In the interview, Dr. Davis explains that “one of the biggest complaints that patients report are memory difficulties—difficulty with work, difficulty with remembering simple items sometimes, unfortunately, and sometimes more significant cognitive impacts.”

Neurology Today Spotlight: Forging Innovation, Kathryn A. Davis Is Recognized with the Dreifuss-Penry Epilepsy Award
Dr. Davis has been highlighted by the American Academy of Neurology’s September 6th issue of “Neurology Today” in light of her recognition with the Dreifuss-Penry Epilepsy Award. In this article she discusses the work she has done in the first 2 years of her NIH K23 award, the direction of her future research and her journey towards a career as an epileptologist with Neurology Today’s Dan Hurley.

Dr. Davis Recognized with the 2018 Dreifuss-Penry Epilepsy Award by the American Academy of Neurology
Dr. Davis was awarded with the Dreifuss-Penry Epilepsy Award at the 2018 American Academy of Neurology’s Annual Meeting. Click HERE to see a list of the 2018 AAN Annual Meeting Award Recipients.
According to the American Academy of Neurology, the Dreifuss-Penry Epilepsy Award recognizes physician-scientists in the early stages of their career for their contribution to epilepsy research.
NIH Director (Francis Collins) blog on Dr. Davis’ work
NIH Director, Dr. Francis Collins, blogs about Dr. Davis’ research on GluCEST imaging with Dr. Favinder Reddy. Dr. Collins writes: “If they are successful, this new tool could yield important insights into epilepsy and a variety of other neurological disorders in which glutamate is thought to play an important role, including schizophrenia, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and maybe even autism.”
